99:1 saw curators Bonnet and Knight collaborate with Dublin-based artist and curator Nicola Lane and artists Beth Biddiss and Karl Somers on an exhibition that raised questions around the authority of the museum, the selection and sanctification of museum objects, and the implications that a life hidden from view may have for the perceived value of the non-displayed institutional object. The exhibition included a satirical video and wall installation by Somers that alluded to the secret lives of objects kept behind the scenes of an imaginary museum, and a wax cast work by Biddiss that playfully challenged the museum’s traditional rejection of the replica or ‘copy’ in favour of the ‘authentic’ object.
